Lipstick Swatches and First Impressions: Lancôme and City Color Cosmetics

This is my first lipstick review/first impressions/swatches video/post! I'd had these lipsticks since winter break and I finally had the opportunity to film my first impressions of the lipsticks. One of them is from Lancome L'Absolu Rouge in "Jeweled Pink" and the other two are from City Color Cosmetics. One is a bright red called "Lady in Red," and the other one is supposed to be a more berry shade called "Paris by Night."

If you would rather watch me talk about this, then watch my video on Youtube, shown below:

Otherwise, you can read on to see some of my thoughts on these lipsticks!

This one looked pretty nude on my lips. It was like a nude with a light shimmer on top. I probably would never wear this unless I wanted to wear lipstick just because. It didn't really add a color to my lips, which was really disappointing for me. However, the swatch on my hand looked nice (see below after lipsticks).

I had always wanted to have a bright red lipstick, and this was it. I had other bright red lipsticks before, but they were not as red as this one. It was so red, it was almost as if it had a yellow base that made my skin look very weird up against this color. However, I do love how smooth this lipstick glides on me. It dries out my lips a little and comes off easily, which can be good for removing it at the end of the night, not good if you want to last all day. You would definitely have to reapply multiple times.

Like the previous lipstick, it is not long-lasting, but the color is so vibrant and the texture is so rich. I love this one the most out of the three because of the way the color looks on my skin. This color was supposed to be a berry shade, but I was disappointed when it still looked pretty red when I swatched it on my skin. After even looking on the City Color website, I found that there was only one "true" berry lipstick shade. Regardless, I still loved how this one looked on me.

Here are the swatches on my skin!
Out of the three, I am most likely to use "Paris by Night," and I was least likely to wear "Jeweled Pink." However, I must say that the quality as far as consistency of the lipsticks were great. I don't recommend wearing these (especially the red ones) if you're planning on eating.

Which one would you choose?

  1. These all look nice, too bad none of them worked especially well for you! Finding the perfect lipstick is fighting an uphill battle, I've been searching for the better part of seven years, and I've yet to find one that was exactly what I wanted. Thanks for the heads up about these, though! xx, Elizabeth

    1. I probably will use the last lipstick the most, but yeah it's okay! I still think they are pretty colors and I'm still on the search for longer-lasting lipsticks. Let me know if you find any!
