Must-Have Apps for Your Tablet

I'm so ecstatic and thankful to have gotten the Dell Venue 8 from Intel! I've had it for almost a month and I still get excited to use it! I've loved being able to take it with me everywhere so that I can work or just stay distracted in general. I especially love that I'm even writing this post on my tablet right at this very moment :]

Of course, one of my biggest struggles have been figuring out what apps to download for my new tablet. I already had the usual apps that most people have, like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I also had a few other apps that I'll be mentioning later, like Evernote and the Bible app, but I wanted to try some other stuff that I wasn't familiar with before or that would be better suited for a tablet instead of a smartphone.

I asked a few blogger friends for their opinions and I took some of their suggestions on top of apps I already had. Here are my must-haves:

1. YouVersion Bible App

Verse of the Day!

When I don't have my physical Bible or don't feel like looking for it, I go to the YouVersion Bible App! It has some great features, like a bunch of different biblical translations, devotionals to choose from, and even sermon notes from churches in your area. My church uses it for that too, and it's cool so that you can follow along with the notes right in front of you when you're at church!

Oh, and the Dell Venue 8 also allows for you to install widgets for most of your apps right onto your tablet screen for easy access. I decided to download the Verse of the Day so that it's right there in front of me without having to open the app itself!

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows

2. Evernote

I downloaded this app on my MacBook so that I could take notes on it for class. I read lots of great reviews but didn't think it was amazing. I kept reading about how this was a must for people to have to take notes but I never really (and still don't really) understand why people think it's the greatest app ever. Don't get me wrong, I'll be honest and say that I do really enjoy this app and I recommend it to all of you, but it's not spectacular like Disneyland fireworks. It's just really user-friendly. Maybe that's what it is.

Anyway...

I decided to download this on my Android tablet as well mostly because I do appreciate how it syncs up on all your devices so it's available wherever you want it. I just love how organized it is and the fact that you can do so much with it. You can take pictures, record stuff, and on tablets you can even write directly onto your notes! It's pretty cool, if you ask me.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows

3. Blogger

As a blogger, it wouldn't be right to own a tablet and not have the Blogger app downloaded for me to post whenever and wherever I want! I mostly just love that I can write on the go when necessary for me. I also like having easy access to seeing the blog itself if I'm checking up on comments or other visual aspects about the blog. I can't do things like edit the html or check out my stats directly from here, but that's fine with me.

I really shouldn't have to explain much about why I have this; me being a blogger should be explanation enough.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android

4. Bloglovin'

If you don't already know what Bloglovin' is, well it allows you to follow all of your blogs across different platforms (Blogger, Tumblr, Wordpress, etc) all in one place! It is so useful and keeps everything in one place.

Bloglovin' is basically a feed for you to be able to read all of the latest posts from the blogs that you follow. I have been really behind on reading blog posts lately so I love having Bloglovin' to read posts on the go.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android

5. Pocket

Thanks to Mo of Ollivandermo, she suggested the Pocket app to me and I decided to try it out! Basically, all Pocket is, is that it allows you to bookmark articles, videos, and photos to read later. You can save from most sites and apps, even Twitter!

Another cool thing, once it's saved onto pocket, you can read or view what you saved without an internet connection! That will come very handy when I'm bored somewhere and don't have access to wifi.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android, and Kobo

6. FreePrints

Another fellow blogger, Victoria from The Boom Boom Room, suggested FreePrints to me. She said you could print out Instagram pictures (or pictures from a number of places, as you can see above) for no more than shipping! After reading that I was sold! I love printing and posting up pictures all around my room, so I downloaded it just in time before moving back to school.

I will be honest though and say that it is a little confusing to use at first. And it said that my first 10 prints would be free, including free shipping. It was great until the app closed on me after 7 pictures then when I opened it back up, the app went straight to check-out and I couldn't go back to choose my other pictures. It was sad.

However, other than that, I'm excited to receive my first 7 prints from this app! I hope to use this for all my photo needs from now on.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android, and Windows

7. Google Keep

So a lot of bloggers recommended Google Keep to me, so I decided to download it, and so far I really love it! It is another note-taking app, but it also helps by having to-do lists and other things that you would normally put on a sticky note, as the app reminded me of them.

Because I just got it, I don't have much on the app yet, but I'm enjoying it so far! Simply put, people have compared this app to the iPhone's version of the Notes app. I like this better than that app because you can color coordinate your notes, have checklists, and set reminders for notes. It is also synced to any of your other web-enabled devices. This might be what converts me from using hand-held print to-do lists, but we'll have to wait and see...

Available for: Android

8. Set Orientation

I don't have a photo for this, but this app is used to keep my tablet from rotating vertical to horizontal any time I move it. I prefer to keep it vertical, so I use it to lock it in that position just fine. You can use it to lock it in horizontally as well, and you can lock it in with both ways in the opposite directions too if you prefer that. Very useful.

Available for: Android

I am extremely satisfied with the apps that I currently have! However, I am still on the search for more to potentially help (or distract) me. Do you have any suggestions?

  1. I use evernote all the time on my iPad especially in school to take notes in class when I don't want to carry my laptop with me everywhere... it's wonderful! You can make lists on them too, and check it off! I'm definitely going to research some of these apps... Thanks for sharing!

  4. Yes! Free Prints is pretty awesome so far. I love Pocket too, especially the no internet connection part. That's one of my favorite aspects about it! And as for Evernote, I'm not as obsessed with it as everyone else is, but I definitely do enjoy it and like that it keeps me organized.

  5. I'm so glad you're liking Google Keep! It's great for keeping all of my different to-do lists separated, as well as keeping the random bits of information I need organized.
