Gamer Girlfriend Probs: Meet the Boyfriend

So I have talked about gaming on this blog a few times now and I have been talking about the boyfriend on here since the beginning. I never formally introduced him to the blog, although I've talked about him so many times. I figured that I would introduce him today, but mostly in the aspect of him as a gamer so you can get a feel for the type of gamer he is. & if you or your significant other play any of the games he plays too, comment or email me your gamertag so that he can connect with you/them!

Without further ado, here's Darell, my boyfriend gamer talking about himself as a gamer! (Warning: He mentions tons of old school and new school games so if you don't know what it is, look it up! Don't worry there are 1 or 2 games where I have no idea what he's talking about either :)

My name is Darell. I'm 22, and I've been gaming since I was 5 or 6.

I play a lot of games; back in high school I was really into Call of Duty/Halo I was an avid FPS player. (first person shooter). Now I play mostly strategy games like League of Legends. I do however play other genres which aren't as mainstream as others. I love city builder games like Cities: Skyline, episodic adventure games like Telltale Games/Life is Strange, and other tycoon games like Prison Architect/Roller Coaster Tycoon (I used to fight with my mom over playing RCT, we both would hog one computer back in the early 2000s).

As far as getting how I got into video games, I don't know if "got into" is the right question to ask, video games felt like they were always there in my life. My dad bought me a Nintendo 64 when I was a kid, and my cousin bought me Starcraft Broodwar for the PC on my 7th birthday, so those were simple steps that brought me to where I'm at. I always remember hanging out with cousins and playing games, whether it was Super Mario World on the SNES or Super Smash Bros on the N64 as time moved on. During family parties once all of us kids were tired from playing hide-n-seek/tag (1990's) or when we it would get too cold outside we would all huddle inside a room and play games. There were usually around 8 of us rotating 4 controllers. We were always competitive, which still translates to how we play games today.

Of course, every gamer has their favorite games that they love and usually don't ever get tired of playing. This is a hard one for me as there are SOOO many games out there; it's like naming the best films.

I'll have to name my top 5 favorite games in no particular order:
- League of Legends - which i've probably spent the most time on revolutionized eSports and put competitive PC gaming on the map
- Starcraft Broodwar - I believe this is the game that trailblazed eSports (electronic spots/competitive gaming) / PC gaming as a whole
- Halo 3 - this game brings back major nostalgia for me and a lot of good memories.
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - oh man this game deserves all the hype it gets, this is the game of the decade for the N64, any fantasy/adventure player alive has/should have beaten this game at least once.
- I typed another game out but definitely had to delete it and put Super Smash Bros on this list, the ultimate party game, i've been playing this game with family for years.
- Some honorable mentions include: Grand Theft Auto 5, Skyrim, Goldeneye, Dynasty Warriors (the game Kriselle and I played together when we first started dating) :D

It sounds crazy and unconventional, but landing a job in the gaming industry is definitely a goal I'd love to achieve. They say if you have a job you love, then you never work a day in your life again. I am not sure what I would want to do; different companies excel in different things. I would love to work along the lines of eSports videography/photography whether that means I'll be camera operator, event photographer, live interviewer, something along the likes of that. There are many companies that do awesome projects like that; ESL (eSports League) and Riot Games are two examples. I wouldn't find working for myself or start up companies like Counter-Logic Gaming (CLG) or Team Solo Mid (TSM).

And since this series is called "Gamer Girlfriend Probs," gaming has obviously had an impact on my relationship with Kriselle. Gaming, like anything, has it's pros/cons on relationships. If the two don't share the love for gaming then it's mostly cons, but Kriselle has been stepping it up to see my side of the spectrum lately which I appreciate. Sometimes it's good that we don't share common interests so that I can show her what I love and explain a multitude of things that may not make sense at all for her.

And the last thing that I want to say for anyone who might be in a similar situation as ours (especially if you don't game but your boyfriend does): My number one tip is, BE OPEN.

Okay having a gamer bf may be annoying sometimes but there is A LOT to learn about gaming and A LOT of potential in this industry. The video game industry makes more money than Hollywood and the music industry combined. There are tons of things to do with video games, whether it's playing the video games themselves, going to conventions (PAX, E3, etc). eSports events (Riot LCS, The Internationals), LAN parties, viewing parties at bars, arenas, even Buffalo Wild Wings etc. There's always something buzzin' if you keep your eyes and ears open.

Another tip is TRY. Just pick up a game and play, if you don't like what you're playing then try something else. Like movies there's seriously a game for everyone.

I hope that you were able to learn something, anything about gaming and I hope that if you read Kriselle's blog a lot that now you have a better understanding of who I am and why I really love what I do. Like I said she is starting to get interested in it which I appreciate from her and I'm also not just being lazy and ignoring her (as much as I used to, hehe) for the game like when we were younger. Gaming may seem like a phase for some, but if the guy in your life is anything like me, that might not be the case. So just be open and check out video games, you never know you just might like it!

Perfect Study Outfit [Guest Post]

HI! I can't believe I didn't write AT ALL last week. I really intended to and had some great posts lined up for you, but tour was way too busy and uncomfortable on the bus for me to be able to get anything done. And even when I had downtime at night, I was so exhausted I knocked out early. Regardless, I had tons of fun and will be sharing my experience with you soon :]

Anyway, I am still recuperating from choir tour/spring break so today I have a guest post from Erin of Erinfinity. Since it's midterms and finals season for many people, she's sharing her perfect study outfit!

----------------------------------

Hello, finals season. We meet again.
It’s that time of year when assignments are piling up and you’re trying to get everything done while staying healthy and exercising and eating right and sleeping enough and having a (miniscule) social life, so who even has time for fashion anymore?
Normally, studying attire is sweatpants and the baggiest sweater I can find, but over the years I have realized that this outfit motivates me to get into bed and nap for the entire day, rather than finish my school work. It’s also embarrassing to go out in public and there’s a fine line between what’s acceptable and what is not – and so, in an attempt to increase productivity, this chic perfect-for-studying outfit was born!

A blouse under a denim shirt is the perfect mix of classy and casual. This outfit is super comfortable, so you can focus on studying AND show off your style at the same time. And don’t forget study breaks – throw on some rain boots and get outside! (Yes, that is what Canada looks like right now. Spring has definitely not sprung, and shows no signs of springing anytime soon…)

Happy studying and good luck to all of you with exams!
Denim shirt: Garage Clothing // Blouse: Le Chateau // Leggings: Aerie for American Eagle // Necklace: Dynamite Clothing // Rubber boots: TSC Stores // Watch: Relic // Knot Bangle: Metal Marvels Store // Socks: made by my grandma!

Back to School Checklist: Beauty Edition [Guest Post]

So even though I'm going on my 3rd week of school, some people are either just starting and there are even others that haven't even started yet!

One of my favorite beauty bloggers, Sammi from College Beauty Buff, is guest posting for me today talking about her back to school must-haves in the beauty department. I love her in-depth reviews of every beauty product she talks about, so I definitely recommend checking her out!
----------------------------------------
Hi, friends! I’m Sammi, the College Beauty Buff, and today I’d like to share with you my back-to-school beauty essentials. These are the products that have saved me, time and time again, from looking like a frumpy mess on my way to class. Over my past few years at school, I’ve learned that these are my must-haves for making me look presentable and awake on a busy schedule. Without further ado, here is my Back-to-School Checklist: Beauty Edition!

Dry Shampoo: for the times you don’t roll out of bed until 7:45 for a 8am class
Splurge: Amika Obliphica Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($21 for 5.3oz)

My hair is straight and blonde, so second day hair is very noticeable, if you catch my drift. I like to apply a little dry shampoo to my roots in the morning to make my hair look fresh and clean, and to give it a bit more volume. I received a free sample of this dry shampoo at last year’s HerConference in NYC, and I really like it! It’s easy, doesn’t weigh down your hair, and doesn’t leave a white residue. My hair looks great, and no one in class has to know it only took me a few seconds!
Save: Johnson’s Baby Powder

For some of us, thinking of spending $21 on a hair product seems ludicrous. That’s why most of the time I always come back to ol’ faithful: Johnson’s Baby Powder. This is the Cornstarch variety, which makes it a little more absorbent, and the lavender scent means it doesn’t scream, “I put dry shampoo in my hair this morning!” This works especially well if you have blonde hair, because once you brush it out, it will be invisible. Those of you with darker hair have to be a little bit more careful, otherwise you might get that white cast. Just make sure not to use too much, and you’ll save yourself some cash by using baby powder. It takes a little bit longer to make sure it’s evenly distributed and not visible, but it leaves you money to spend on makeup instead! ;)

Baked Potato Salad Recipe [Guest Post]

So while I'm moving back to school today, I have Pam from Hodge Podge Moments sharing her recipe for baked potato salad! As a college student, easy recipes are a must, and this fits the bill! Hope you enjoy!

--------------------------------------------

Hey everyone! I'm Pam from Hodge Podge Moments and I'm excited to be sharing my go-to recipe for potlucks and picnics. It's super easy to make and always a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients:
Red Potatoes
Ranch Dressing
Bacon Pieces (salad topping size)
Cheese

I'm not listing the amount needed because that will vary depending on the number of potatoes you use. I tend to buy a bag of potatoes, bottle of Ranch, package of bacon pieces, and a bag of cheese. I always have leftovers of the other ingredients when I use the whole bag of potatoes.

Step 1: Buy your ingredients.

Step 2: Wash & dry your potatoes.

Step 3: Wrap each potato in aluminum foil.

Step 4: Put the potatoes on a tray.

Step 5: Bake the potatoes at 375 degrees for one hour.

Step 6: Put potatoes in the fridge to cool for several hours. (I usually do overnight.)

Step 7: Cut each potato into small squares. (This is the most time consuming part!)

Step 8: Put your cut potatoes into the pan(s) you plan to use for serving.

Step 9: Add in ranch dressing, bacon pieces, and cheese. Stir until the salad is well coated.

Step 10: Serve your creation!

Don't forget to smile!

Skincare for the Anti-Tanner [Guest Post}

So I will be coming from camp tomorrow! (yay!) With that being said, I have my last guest post of this week by Mo from Ollivander Mo! Today she's touching on what it's like to be naturally tan, like me! Whether you want to get tanner or use that whitening soap your mom gave you, I hope you enjoy this post and learn something from it!

----------------------------------------------

Hey, everyone! It's Mo from Ollivander Mo! Like Kriselle, I'm Filipino. Being Filipino, I'm just naturally "tan." In fact, saying I'm "tan" would be an understatement. I, like many other Asians, don't really like how easily I tan from the sun. While most girls my age are going out of their way get more color from the sun, I'm doing literally the opposite. I'm going out of my way to ensure that I don't get any darker...which, might I add, is extremely hard because sometimes I get darker just from walking to my car (especially here in Arizona).

For those of you wishing you had my skin-color, keep in mind that the color I am is me at my lightest after years of making conscious effort not to get darker. For those of you who understand MAC foundation shades I'm currently an NC43. Their darkest shade available is NC55 I believe. Again, keep in mind that this is me at my lightest. Sigh.

So, for those wondering how an anti-tanner takes care of her skin (aside from the face), here are the top four products that I use!

1. Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen SPF 50
This stuff smells amazing. It smells like summer and coconuts. I try to wear high SPF sunscreen on a daily basis because I need all the help I can get to keep the color away. Sunscreen is one of those things that everyone knows you're wearing because they can totally smell it on you. No one wants to be sitting through the school or work day smelling like sunscreen. Luckily, this stuff smells (and feels) more like regular lotion than sunscreen. Only with the benefits of SPF 50. Yes.

2. Japanese Wash Cloths
These are much more rough than your average "loofa." It comes in a long strip of "cloth" that's particularly rough making it great for exfoliating. Exfoliating is one of the best ways to brighten up your skin. It removes the dead skin cells that have been fried by the sun and reveals new, bright skin beneath it. If you're used to regular loofas, the Japanese wash cloth will probably actually hurt at first. This is pretty normal. Over time, you'll get used to the roughness.

3. Skin Whitening Papaya Soap
I usually use Likas brand because it's what my mom gets from family in the Philippines. Out of all the skin whitening methods, I feel safest using Papaya soap because it's one of the more gentle solutions. I've heard horror stories of women using skin whitening and bleaching products and essentially just ruining their skin completely, so I never go with anything too harsh. It's something you see results with over time, but because I don't always use it consistently, it mostly just helps me maintain my current color. Mostly what I do is wrap it with the Japanese wash cloth and scrub my body (mostly my arms) with this stuff. It helps to even out the skin tone and a blemishes on your skin. It also really helps with things like dark elbows and knees. The one downside to this soap is that it can be extremely drying. If you were to wash up with this stuff, your skin would start feeling tight before you even got out of the shower.

4. Lush Cosmetics Buffy Bar
Being that the papaya soap is really drying, I love using the Buffy Bar from Lush to moisturize back up. It has grains, sands and other things in there that help to further exfoliate the skin. It's basically a lotion bar with a scrub built in. The way you use it is you get in the shower and after washing up you rub this all over your wet skin. The grains will stick of course so you'll be required to rinse everything off. Because it's a lotion bar you use in the shower, your skin drinks it up! Just wait. You'll get out of the shower and be silk smooth, soft and moisturized!

BONUS PRODUCT: This doesn't really count as skincare, but it helps me avoid a tan: a Cardigan! I wear cardigans year round to avoid the sun. Is that sad? Lol.

How do you feel about tanning/your current skintone? What do you do to get the skintone you want?

The Perfect Beach Tote [Guest Post]

I am currently in the middle of the camp week and it is exhausting, let me tell you. I'm sad that it is halfway over but I'm also glad because soon enough I'll be back on here with you guys! Until then, here is Ashliegh, one of the first bloggers I met when I started doing this last summer.

------------------------------------------

Hi friends! I'm Ashliegh, the blogger behind The Darling Daily. My blog features classy fun, fashion, beauty, recipes and more! I am a recent post-grad, sorority woman, and lover of bargain shopping, reading classic literature, and, of course, living life to my personal motto, "high heels, high standards, pearls everyday."

Summer is here and that means backyard BBQ's, sun tanning, and, most importantly, beach time! In order to carry my favorite magazines and beach reads, sunscreen, and other beach essentials, I'm in search of the perfect beach tote!

1. Fresh Pick Geo Beach Tote ($32) - This bag is so girly! Who doesn't love the pink and green color combination?!

2. Island Hopper Beach Tote ($39) - A simple natural straw bag is a beach classic! You can't go wrong with a timeless staple like this tote.

3. Striped Beach Tote ($46.99) - Stripes always remind me of the beach, especially if they're red and white stripes. With a nautical vibe and rope straps, I could definitely see myself packing this on a cruise vacation
4. La Vida Loca Beach Tote ($34.99) - This tote is loud and screams fun! Pack a volleyball into this tote to carry the fun factor onto the beach!
5. Personalized Canvas Tote (on sale now for $9.95!) - A simple monogrammed tote is another classic for the preppy girl! As Reese Witherspoon once said, "if it isn't moving, monogram it!"

Which beach bag is your favorite, Darling?

I hope you'll stop by The Darling Daily and say hello! You can also follow along on TwitterFacebook, and Bloglovin'

With Love,
Ashliegh

5 Reasons Why I Read a Blog [Guest Post]

Untitled design (7)

Hey, everyone! It's Kriselle here. So I'm currently away at camp for this whole week, so you will be getting to know some great people and reading some great things from them while I'm away. So today, please welcome Felecia from Hello Felecia!

-----------------------------------------------

Hello Livin and Lovin Readers! I'm Felecia from Hello Felecia dot com. I write a lifestyle blog, it has a little bit of all my hobbies from books to fashion. I am glad to be able to share with you all today. As a reader and a blogger there are a couple of factors that keep me going back to a blog.

1. Personal Connection.

Who does not like making friends and staying up to date on the goings on of their life. I know I do, and I enjoy not only receiving tips and advice from different blogs but the ability to get to know the blogger behind the advice. Although, I may have never meet them in person, I know them a little better when the blogger shares personal information.

2. Humor.

I enjoy a sense of humor. Life is pretty serious already and a little humor lightens things up a bit. I am not super hilarious, but I do enjoy reading blogs written by bloggers with a sense of humor.

3. Beautiful Photos.

I do appreciate photos within a blog post, it breaks up the text nicely. I also enjoy when blog post have quotes tried in that has to do with the topic of the post or are the topic of the blog post.

4. Comment Response.

I enjoy getting replies to my comments almost as much as I enjoy getting comments on my blog. It is a another way to connect with readers on the blog. It is cool to know not only was the comment read but time was taken to thoughtfully response to the comment, and get to know me, the reader, a little bit better.

5. Outside communication.

I enjoy communication and connection, I have mentioned these two factors a couple of times. It is cool when the interaction happens outside of the blog. When I can interact with the blogger like any other friend I know through various social media, in particular Instagram and Twitter. I enjoy getting to know people, hearing their stories, and being a part of their world.   Why do you keep coming back? What do you enjoy most about blogging or reading blogs?

Discovering Delirium [Guest Post]

So today, I have the pleasure of having Lauren, one of my sponsors on my sidebar, post for me today. Although I don't talk about it enough, I'm truly a bookworm and love to read! I just recently finished reading Shopoholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella. But today, Lauren will be reviewing a book from a series she just started! I'm always looking for new book recommendations, so I hope you enjoy :]

------------------------------------------

Hi everyone! I’m Lauren and I blog over at Sassy Sweetheart. I’m so glad Kriselle let me take over for the day to share with you one of my new favorite series! I picked up Delirium by Lauren Oliver without having any idea what I was getting myself into. Honestly, I just knew I had seen it places before so I figured if other people liked it, I might too. Spoiler alert: I did.

Summary from Amazon.com
Lena Haloway is content in her safe, government-managed society. She feels (mostly) relaxed about the future in which her husband and career will be decided, and looks forward to turning 18, when she’ll be cured of deliria, a.k.a. love. She tries not to think about her mother’s suicide (her last words to Lena were a forbidden “I love you”) or the supposed “Invalid” community made up of the uncured just beyond her Portland, Maine, border. There’s no real point—she believes her government knows how to best protect its people, and should do so at any cost. But 95 days before her cure, Lena meets Alex, a confident and mysterious young man who makes her heart flutter and her skin turn red-hot. As their romance blossoms, Lena begins to doubt the intentions of those in power, and fears that her world will turn gray should she submit to the procedure. In this powerful and beautifully written novel, Lauren Oliver, the bestselling author of Before I Fall, throws readers into a tightly controlled society where options don’t exist, and shows not only the lengths one will go for a chance at freedom, but also the true meaning of sacrifice. --Jessica Schein

My Thoughts:

I was immediately hooked. What I really loved about this story was that Oliver makes the world her characters live in so believable. Not only does it focus on the elimination of romantic love, but also more platonic love. Friends don’t greet each other with hugs and parents don’t comfort their children when they fall. I can’t imagine living in a world where relationships don’t mean much, which made this whole concept that much fascinating to me.

The first half of Delirium drags on a little bit. Lena starts out counting down the days to her cure. She can’t wait to be cured because she believes in her government’s ideas. She truly believes that love is a disease. Lena gets upset when her best friend Hana listens to unauthorized music and wants to go to forbidden co-ed parties. Even when Lena meets Alex, she still firmly believes in the process and tries to ignore him.

It isn’t until Lena starts to form a real relationship and romance with Alex that things start to pick up and get interesting. Lena has to make up elaborate lies to be able to get out of the house to see Alex. And when Alex tells Lena about life in “the wilds” outside of all of the government regulations, she starts to contemplate running.

I found myself initially annoyed with Lena for believing so firmly in her government, despite the fact that she had no reason not to. But after Lena meets Alex I found myself rooting for her and their love. Lena doesn’t let Alex take care of her. She is strong, independent, and so brave. She’s not the typical damsel in distress who needs a man, but instead learns from Alex as an equal.

The ending is such a cliffhanger. I immediately started Pandemonium when I was finished because I couldn't wait any longer to find out what would happen to Lena. I don't want to spoil anything for you by telling you about Pandemonium, but I will say things start to get very interesting when we're not in Portland anymore.

Bottom line: You'll love this series if you love Hunger Games, The Selection, or Matched. After you start to get into Delirium, you won't be able to put it down!

Memorial Day Beauty Favorites [Guest Post]

Hello, everyone! So I don't normally post on Saturdays (unless I forget to post on Fridays... whoops), but today I have a special treat for you all by having Jordan from The Spontaneous Idealist guest posting once again for me! Today she is sharing her favorite beauty products for this Memorial Day weekend! (I'll have to keep these in mind for me, too!)

----------------------------------------------------------

Hello y’all! I am so excited to guest blog over here at Livin’ And Lovin’. I am so excited to continue this Memorial Day Weekend: hello sunshine and tanlines. Am I right?

I love sun kissed skin. It is the ultimate gift from summer. But if you are like me, there is no break from work and school these next few months. A little help may be needed – don’t be ashamed of that!

There are three products I have fallen in love already that are sure to give you that “I spend all my spare time at the beach” look we all crave. {This is not a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.}

1. Victoria’s Secret Self Tan. I have never been a fan of “fake tans” or tinted lotions, but this product changed my mind. The avocado oil based lotion goes on so smoothly and easily, creating a nice glow. Tips: rub it in really well; wash around your ankles, wrists, and hand very thoroughly, be sure to let it dry and set before you get dressed; and rinse off in the shower a few hours after application to remove any excess lotion.  It lasts a good while and comes out of clothes and sheets very easily. Best self-tanning product on the market.

2. Jergen’s Natural Glow Lotion. I apply this religiously after showers. Combined with the VS Self-Tan, and some good ol’ sun, you will be flawless.

3. HAIR by Victoria’s Secret. I have very straight, fine hair. This product makes my hair voluminous and wavy (some things I never thought my hair would ever do). Just spray liberally on damp or dry hair, scrunch it up, and enjoy the smell and look of beach hair. It is a miracle.

Those are just a few of my latest favorites that I hope will give you a little boost to look your best this Memorial Day weekend! Stay safe and have fun!

--------------------------------------

Jordan has been all over my social media lately! She is truly a beautiful and awesome girl, please check her out!

No Bake Cherry-Oreo Cheesecake [Guest Post]

I don't normally post on Sundays, but I have a very special guest post for you guys today! I am part of the SoCal Lady Bloggers and for this month we decided to do a blog swap where we basically guest post for another blogger based on what that person normally writes about. Today, I have Kirstin from SoCal Kids Outdoor Adventures posting an easy dessert recipe that is easy enough to replicate in a college dorm on a college budget!

-----------------------------------------------------------

As a college student for 9 years, I had to get creative when cooking on a budget with limited tools.  I adapted several recipes to make tasty home-made dessert that satisfied my sweet-tooth.

For about $15 and 15 minutes of prep, you can make this yummy Cherry-Oreo No Bake Cheese Cake.

Items Needed For Pie Filling:

Step 1
  • 1 glass/pyrex 9 inch pie pan(DO NOT use metal pie pan!)
  • 1 (9 inch) crust or make your own using the below recipe
  • 1(8 ounce) cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. of lemon extract or 2 tsp of lemon juice
  • 1 egg
Step 2
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 Tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Step 3
  • 1 (21 ounce) can of fruit pie filling (we used cherry, but any will do)
  • (Optional) Oreo cookies to decorate the top
Crust
  • 1 cup of crushed Oreos (you can use any cookie/cracker crumbs)
  • 3 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of butter

Making the Crust:

Combine the crumbs, sugar and butter together in the glass pie pan.  Heat ingredients on high for 2 minutes until mixed well.  Press crust evenly into the pie pan and heat in microwave for 1 minute to set the crust.

Step 1:

Soften the cream cheese in the microwave (or let it sit out for room temperature) for 30 seconds.  Whisk the sugar, lemon and egg together and pour into the pie pan.  Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes.  Rotate the pan 1/2 way through.

Step 2:

Combine sour cream, sugar and vanilla and whisk until fluffy.  Spread over the pie and microwave for 2 1/2 minutes rotating the pie pan 1/2 way through.

Step 3:

Pour fruit pie filling over the pie, decorate with Oreo cookies and chill in the fridge for at least an hour to set.

Enjoy with your 4 closest friends or save it all for yourself.
